Gowalla Vs. Foursquare BlackBerry App Face-Off!

With two legitimate "check-in-apps" on the market for BlackBerrys, one might have trouble figuring out "which one is for me?" No fear, in this article we will put the Gowalla app and Foursquare app for BlackBerry to the test versus each other. Hopefully, after reading this you will be able to choose which one and see the differences and faults of them both.

Gowalla Releases BlackBerry Beta App

Gowalla for BB
Due to the recent popularity of Foursquare, other app developers have tried to create similar products. According to TheBerryFreak, one of the top competitors is Gowalla. Gowalla, just like Foursquare, allows you to check-in at different places while you are out and about, and see where your friends are also. Until recently, Foursquare has beaten Gowalla in getting their app to many formats (Andriod, iPhone, and BlackBerry), but then Gowalla took the next step and released the BlackBerry version in public beta.

More BlackBerry Curve 9300 Kepler Images Leak Out

We had been sent some more photos of the BlackBerry Curve 9300 "Kepler". As previously noted, the 9300 will be the replacement for the Curve 8500 series. It will have 256MB flash memory, 3G, WiFi, and 624MHZ processor.

Something interesting to note is that while the RAM is only at 256, we're pretty sure the 9300 will eventually support BlackBerry 6. The current OS, while only 5.0, is on 6.0 platform, which makes us believe we should eventually see it running BlackBerry 6 in the future.

We've also heard there might be a 9320/30 in the works. Perhaps this could be a 512MB RAM device?

Additional photos after break.

Facebook v1.8 Hits BlackBerry Beta Zone for Selected Testers

We were tipped that selected people have been invited to beta test Facebook app v1.8 from the BlackBerry Beta Zone. Version 1.8.0 is in fact a maintenance release, and focuses mainly on enhancing the performance of the already existing application, including speed improvements for loading photos, friends list and the News Feed.

BlackBerry Bold 9650 OS 5.0.0.732 Leaked

With the official release of the Verizon BlackBerry Bold 9650 today, we thought it would only be suitable for any new owners to be able to get their hands on OS 5.0.0.732! This is a Verizon package. Therefore, any Sprint users must delete the vendor.xml file. We aren't sure what has changed with this build, but it is certainly a fair step up from .699!

BlackBerry Pearl 9100 / 9105 OS 5.0.0.748 Leaked

BlackBerry Bold 9800 Slider Beginning to Appear on App World Purchases?

If you had any doubts that the BlackBerry Bold 9800 Slider was going to be on AT&T, or was even real, this might help you believe. Developers are now reporting that they are seeing the Bold 9800 show up in their lists of purchases in App World. It shows the Slider running OS 6 and being on AT&T in the USA.

We're assuming this goes along with what we've heard about the Bold 9800 Slider currently being in AT&T R&D the past few weeks. If this is the case, it would lead us to think a summer release is imminent. What do you think? Is the Slider on its way?

TELUS Putting an EOL on the BlackBerry Storm2?

There is a new rumor suggesting that the carrier TELUS will be putting an end of life (EOL) on the BlackBerry Storm2. Said to be effective July 13th 2010, with the Storm2 having not even been on the carrier for a year (only since November 2009). This would be a fairly early EOL for a device whose predecessor is said to be releasing sometime in October.

While we don't always like to touch on too many rumors without evidence of some kind, given the assumption of a Storm3 in the works, we'd like to think this rumor could be true. Hopefully, for further proof, someone will be able to snap a pic of the TELUS inventory showing the Storm2 to become EOL. Could this mean we might see a Storm3 device sometime in the summer? Probably not likely, but it would be nice. What do you think?

Verizon BlackBerry Bold 9650 Now Available for Purchase Online!

Verizon Wireless has been very sluggish with the release of the BlackBerry Bold 9650. With just officially announcing the 9650 yesterday, they have now launched it online as we previously heard was to take place. This is Verizon's answer to the Bold 9700, and while not too far different from the Tour 9630 (its original older brother) we're sure the 9650 will be well accepted.

BlackBerry Onyx Delta; a Refreshed Bold 9700?

We've been hearing a lot of chatter from our sources regarding what is being called the BlackBerry Onyx Delta. While it is unusual for RIM to re-use a codename from a previous device, it kind of makes sense to us why they might in this case. When the 9700a was first outed through a UAProf document, many people were led to believe this was the rumored Slider, which we now know is the 9800. However, we've learned that the 9700a may be a completely different device.

Official: BlackBerry Curve 8900 OS 5.0.0.681

Back in mid May we saw OS 5.0.0.681 leak for the 8900. Now Vodafone Germany has passed it as an official release! If you're not prone to loading leaked OS', you might find this to your fancy.

Official RIM Statement on EMEA BIS Failure

Yesterday's problems were related to failure of the fiber of one of Europe's Internet service providers Reseach In Motion. Currently, Internet traffic configuration has been modified and restored to its previous state will be only after a series of confirmation tests fully functional connections. According to the assumptions, should ideally take place tomorrow night, between the hours of 9PM and 1AM EST.

First BlackBerry Curve 9300 Kepler Images Leak Out

The BlackBerry Curve 9300 aka Kepler has been known about for sometime, but still shrouded in mystery. We first heard rumors about a new 3G and WiFi enabled Curve some time ago, which were then proven by a UAProf document. If that wasn't enough proof of its existence, we then saw the 9300's OS leak out, which is rare to see happen first.

BlackBerry OEM Accessory Packaging Gets a Face-Lift

For some time the packaging on BlackBerry OEM accessories has been lack luster. As you can see provided the image above RIM has redesigned the packaging from a simple plastic box to a new more graphically-rich cardboard container.

It will be interesting to see if RIM will do a new box design for BlackBerry devices in the near future. If they do, we think the current new-look they've used for accessory packaging will be a good look. How do you like the new redesigned packaging?
