Blackberry Storm 2 & Onyx Wi-Fi Browsing Video

As always, here's a great video from Salomondrin showing the Wi-Fi browsing speeds of Blackberry Storm 2 and Blackberry Onyx. Who's faster?

BIS 2.8 Is Available, maybe?

According to our Polish friends at BBNews.pl they're claiming that BIS 2.8 has arrived after the recent "crash" many Blackberry users experienced a few days ago. The so called "crash" halted the proper arrival times of e-mails, which for many Blackberry users, could be devastating. The new BIS update is to change the support of Hotmail accounts with SMEs to POP3, which means that you no longer have to type your password every 90 days. If you're running OS 5.0 Gmail is also said to be syncing well.

Iris Browser BlackBerry Screenshots?

When we saw these sitting in our inbox, we couldn't believe our eyes. It appears to be the newly acquired Iris Browser from Torch Mobile running on a BlackBerry. However, we're not too sure what to make of these images...if they are actually real. Nevertheless, if they are real, it looks beautiful and we're ready for its release!
From what it looks like from the screen captures it appears to have "tabs" unless this is the template for history. If its anything like the windows mobile browser, we're hoping it performs better on BlackBerry's. We're still skeptical with these images, given how recent the aquisition of Torch Mobile by RIM. If any new info comes to fruition we will keep you updated.

BlackBerry Onyx 9700 T-Mobile Image Leaked

T-Mobile USA PR sent, whether accidentally or on purpose, this marketing image of the new BlackBerry Onyx 9700 to Al Sacco from CIO.com. Their e-mail also contained this bit of information regarding the Onyx:
The BlackBerry 'Onyx' sports a premium experience and design with a high-gloss black finish and leather grain detail on the back. Boasting features such as high-speed 3G Web browsing, Wi-Fi calling, visual voicemail and support for corporate and personal e-mail options, the 'Onyx' will satisfy all your on-the-go needs. Also the phone comes preloaded with mobile applications from BlackBerry App World, including Amazon MP3 store for quick and easy music downloads and TeleNav GPS Navigator for turn-by-turn directions.
The next in line for the Bold series is said to support UMA, or Wi-Fi calling for the T-Mobile HotSpot@Home service. It was also noted that the 'Onyx' will ship with an Amazon MP3 BlackBerry app. The BlackBerry Onyx 9700 should be releasing before the end of 2009.

  • 824mhz processor
  • full mobile graphics chip (not sure the brand or type but will find out) for gaming
  • OLED "HD" screen full touch sensitive and gaming consumer geared (like iphone) for ex. playing mario cart. or a driving game you turn it in hands the screen follows. RIM has patent'd this tech and is yet to be named but far from new.
  • wi-fi bg (n tested in labs battery falls way short)
  • lte,cdma,evdo,rev-a,rev-b,gsm quad band. and for att release 7.2+mbps
  • 2100 mah battery as of now. could change at release.

We know that RIM was working on a slide out QWERTY keyboard BlackBerry, but ultimately stopped further attempts to produce it. If the diagram above is correct, and is NOT the original design from a previous slide out keyboard concept, many are wondering what it could ultimately look like. Some speculate it will look similar to the Storm 2. Either way, we're all looking forward to see what else RIM has up their sleeves.
