BIS 3.0 Arrival Dates Announced!

Our good friend Bla1ze over at Crackberry received info about BIS 3.0's release in North America. The dates and times are as follows:

  • There will be scheduled network maintenance by Research In Motion (RIM) affecting BIS customers between 0100 CT / 0200 EDT on March 28th and 0500 CT / 0600 EDT on March 28th.
  • Blackberry will be performing a BlackBerry Internet Service v2.8 upgrade to BlackBerry Internet Service v3.0
  • BlackBerry Internet Service subscribers may be unable to send or receive messages using their BlackBerry hosted email account or integrated third-party email accounts, view email attachments, activate email service, or request to see ""more"" text during the maintenance.
  • Wireless service providers and device resellers may be unable to create subscriber accounts or provision services for subscribers.
  • The estimated duration of impact is 4 hours and affects 100% of BIS customers
So according to the notice, all BIS customers will be without data for four hours which is not too bad for what we should be getting. Also most people will be sleeping during those hours so when we all wake up we should have BIS 3.0!

More Blackberry Pearl 9100 Images Surface

Looks like our international friends over at Tecnomovida were able to snap some fresh flicks of the unreleased (and unannounced) 3G Blackberry Pearl 9100.  The photos show the device running OS 5.0.0.449, and it looks like the phone is pretty much ready for primetime.  Personally, this is a VERY sexy device, and I think it's going to be a hit.  Check out more photos after the jump, and let us know what you think!

Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary App Review

Paragon Software let us know that they just released a Merriaum-Webster Dictionary app for the Blackberry platform.  Before you say "not another dictionary app," this app includes something that no other dictionary apps (to my knowledge) have.  This application saves the dictionary database to your SD card, for offline access.  This is a feature that I know some out there have been waiting for and luckily the wait is over.  The Merriam-Webster app is fast, simple, and will help you find your definitions with ease.  I had the privilege of testing this app out the last few days, hit the jump for a full review.

More Specs on BlackBerry Shield Emerge; Will It Be Useful?

We were recently tipped with what sounds to be the full specs on the upcoming BlackBerry Shield. We had initially touched on the 'Shield' service, hearing it was to be announced around the same time as BESX. However, it wasn't and we were still left with only the vague details we originally had. Now this upcoming service is sounding ever so enticing, especially once BIS 3.0+ is released.

First Images of BlackBerry OS 6.0?

There has been much speculation over what OS 6.0 could possibly look like. We were recently hit with these images of what appear to be of a device running OS 6.0 with a similar screen resolution of a storm or storm2. These spy shot images come highly regarded as real from one our best connects. We're hoping to see it soon on a physical device (maybe the slider?) and so until then take from it what you will.

Tumblr for Blackberry Released

Tumblr finally released their Blackberry app, which is very similar to their iPhone application.  You can post text, photos, quotes, links, chat, audio and video.  It won't let you customize your page, but you can post anything to your Tumblr through your Blackberry.  The app is fast, and allows you to easily post things.  If you're a Tumblr user make sure you check this out, and let us know what you think!

Productivity Tip: Stay Organized with Memopad

RIM's Blackberry could be considered one of the best productivity tools you can have.  There are so many things you can do from conference calls to scheduling meetings and composing word documents, there isn't much you can't do.  The core Blackberry applications are some of the best apps, even better than 3rd party apps, when dealing with organization and being productive.  One of my favorite core apps is Memopad.  I use Memopad on a daily basis for a number of my organization needs.  Hit the jump for reasons why I love Memopad.
