Blackberry Messenger to Stop on Saturday in Saudi Arabia?

ITP.net reported today that The Arab News quoted the Al Watan newspaper saying that the CITC wants the ability to monitor messages sent via the Blackberry Messenger (BBM) network. One of the selling features of BBM is the fact that messages are only saved on the sender's and receiver's devices, unlike email. ITP is saying that there are many rumors that the BBM service will stop today in Saudi Arabia.

RIM made this statement about the matter: "RIM operates in more than 170 countries around the world and respects the regulatory requirements of governments... RIM is investigating the reported matter in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and will provide an update once further information is available to share."

Could iPhone Overtake BlackBerry Market Share In 2011?

Forbes.com seems to think so. Over the past couple of years Research In Motion and Apple have seen their share in the global mobile phone market increase. This is likely due to the fact that everyone now believes that they need a smartphone in order to make it through the day (and I would have to agree). For a while, RIM has been the leader in market shares, but Forbes.com says that Apple has been closing this gap and will eventually overtake RIM as early as 2011.

New Elecite Clarion Theme FREE!!!

Master theme builders Elecite have released a new FREE theme called Clarion.  The screenshot above is the theme loaded on my 8900.  This theme is absolutely beautiful, and I would be happy to pay for a theme like this.  All OS 5.0 devices are supported, and Storm users can actually go to the Elecite website, and customize the theme with the Genus Theme Machine before they download.  This theme is fast, and has some nice screen transitions.  Let us know how you like it!

Leaked: OS 5.0.0.536 for the Bold 9700

Our good friends over at Crackberry got their hands on a new OS leak for the Blackberry Bold 9700.  Looks like the 9700 is getting the majority of the leaks.  As usual install at your own risk, we take no responsibility for a bricked berry.  I don't know if there is anything new in this OS, let us know in the comments if you find anything new!

Carriers Getting New Screen Improved BlackBerry Storm2

For some of you BlackBerry Storm2 owners, the touchscreen experience may not always be so great. From personal experience I can say that my Storm2 will not always 'click' when it's supposed to. Luckily for us, RIM is taking the necessary steps to correct this problem. We first heard rumor about the changes from BerryScoop, who couldn't quite confirm it, until they received a copy of an internal e-mail. We also have a VZW ninja who added a bit more info as to what is happening, and how this is a world-wide "recall".

BerryWeather Updated to v2.2.01

I just got an email from Bellshare that their very popular BerryWeather app has been updated to v2.2.01.  BerryWeather is probably the best weather application out there for Blackberry.  The main update is the added support for 3rd party app access to BerryWeather data.  Developers can now integrate BerryWeather into their apps.  Other than that it looks like a few bug fixes.  If anybody notices any updates let us know!

Rumor: Blackberry Pearl 9100 Going to Telus?

The folks over at Blackberry Sync received a tip that Telus Mobility in Canada will be getting a Black and Pink model of the new redesigned Pearl 9100.  This is good news and hopefully means that a launch for the 9100 is not far off.  The Pearl 9100 is a major upgrade from the Pearl 8100, featuring 3G, OS 5.0, and upgraded styling to match the current trend in Blackberry's.  This news goes right inline with what @DerrellJamison posted earlier about there possibly being a full qwerty option for the Pearl 9100.  I'm getting pretty excited about WES 2010, RIM has a lot to release!  What are you most anticipating the release of?

BlackBerry Pearl 9100 To Offer Full QWERTY Keyboard?

As weird as it may seem, this might actually be a possibility. The guys over at CrackBerry are reporting that Al Sacco (CIO.com) posted something he found from Chinese cell-phone parts seller called, TrueSupplier. They are offering a full QWERTY keyboard replacement for the BlackBerry Pearl 9100. The above photo looks legitimate enough, but I wonder what reasons RIM would have for moving away from the standard SureType keyboard that is usually found on the BlackBerry Pearl? It's also very possible that RIM may decide to just offer two versions of the phone - one with SureType keyboard and one with full QWERTY keyboard.

What are your thoughts on this? Could a full QWERTY keyboard work well on a smaller BlackBerry device or is this a move in the wrong direction for RIM? You be the judge...

BlackBerry Slider Gets a Close Up With Clearer Images; Is It the Storm3 or a New Bold?

By now most people know that the BlackBerry Slider is no longer a myth and is in fact a real device. The first images were a bit blurry and hard to make out. Now you can end the squinting and look at these new higher resolution images of the first ever full QWERTY keyboard slider BlackBerry. More info and images after break.

BeeJive For Blackberry App Review

When I upgraded to my Blackberry 8900 about a year ago I was on a quest to find a quality multi-im client to bypass having multiple instant messaging apps.  RIM's Google Talk, Yahoo, and other im apps work great, but if you're like me and chat with friends across multiple networks, having multiple apps can hog precious memory.  I tried most of the free Blackberry compatible im clients out there but they all fell short of satisfaction.  BeeJiveIM was always in the back of my mind during my testing of free apps, and having used the trial version, I knew it was a great app.  The only thing that kept me away from it was the steep price.

Recently BeeJiveIM updated their im client for compatibility with OS 5.0, and dropped their price dramatically.  I had already used up my trial, so after reading rave reviews on a number of blogs I decided to go ahead and purchase the app.  So I've been using the app for a couple of months now and would like to throw my $.02 into the pot of BeeJiveIM reviews.  Hit the jump for the full review.

First Live Images of a BlackBerry Slider; Could This be the Storm3?

Now here is something very interesting! It appears to be the first live images of a BlackBerry Slider! While we cannot confirm the legitimacy of these images just yet, they do seem ever so convincing. All of the characteristics fall into place (from what we can see). The buttons are up-to-date and "built-in" to the touchscreen. There is a touchpad, which makes sense, for additional navigation.

Social Beat App Getting Pushed to All Verizon BlackBerry Users

iSkoot's Social Beat has recently been pushed to all Verizon BlackBerry users, as spotted by BBOS. Apparently, this unique social networking app was only available for the Curve 8530. Now that it is available for all, those looking for a "SocialScope on steroids" will find delight in Social Beat.
