According to the financial research company, Collins Stewart, we should see the BlackBerry Storm3 in August of 2010. This date was suggested in a recent report regarding the financial benefit of the continued use of Synaptics' ClearPad touchscreen technology for the Storm3.
We contacted Synaptics, "...who does not comment on its relationship with RIM."
It will be interesting to see if this rumor follows through. If you have followed the Storm series then you will know that the past two devices (Storm1 and Storm2) have launched in October. An August release date might be a better fitting timeline for going against the iPhone 4.
Synaptics makes various packages of the ClearPad touchscreen. The latest is the ClearPad 3000. ClearPad 3000 Series offers:
- Next-Generation User Experience—Leverage breakthrough multi-finger gestures for exciting new games and applications, including dual/multi-player gaming devices and mobile applications. Click here to see the 3000 Series demo with gestures like Crumple and Scratch.
- Larger Screen Sizes—Synaptics’ proprietary chip features 48 sensing channels and excellent power management—enabling screen sizes up to 8 inches and more accurate sensing.
- Maximum Display Area—Industry-leading narrow borders increases the amount of touchscreen real estate and optimizes popular display technologies, such as OLED
We've heard many times that the Storm3 is supposed to be a gaming device. The ClearPad 3000 sounds like it would be the perfect option to advance the Storm3 into perfect competition with the iPhone 4 and Android devices.
Do you think we will see the Storm3 release in August? Is there even a Storm3? Normally, we would have seen a device leak or some tangible evidence to prove its existence by now.

The Storm1 came out on November 21st, 2008. I remember...it was freezing in front of that Verizon store.
Storm3, yes there will be. But in August, and it is already the end of June? Not happening.
the "research company" needs to do a
Competition for the iPhone4 and Android devices??? You have gotta be kidding me. It won't even come close to them. Lets just keep it real. BB's have always been designed with business/corporate clientele in mind. With everything added for the storm 1 and 2 (and I currently have a Storm by the way) that little fact hasn't changed. They are never going to offer us the speedy processors like iphone or android phones. They aren't giving us that lightening fast internet. They aren't giving us that enormous internal memory. So to say "perfect competition with the iPhone 4 and Android devices". Please don't be fooled.
There is no Storm 3 - sorry. The project is currently scrapped. The prodigal S4 may however launch as an S3 (likely re-branded).
And you know this, how?

True. I'm a 17 yr old kid. So of course i txt alot and frequently browse the web alot. And my storm(1) always freezes up and gets the little square thing in the middle which acts as the hour-glass pointer on a computer. It also gets very laggy once it hasnt had the battery removed for a few hours. and when you take the battery out and replace it back in it takes so long to boot up that by the time it finally does, you forget what it was that you were trying to do with the phone. I'm always getting "device memory is to low" whenever trying to dl an app. not to mention the apps for the blackberry storm aren't even that great. It has a low selection of games and the battery dies like a man bleeding to death...... If my mom wasn't stuck in a 4 year agreement deal i'd have an iphone in my pocket this instant
i dont get why people think there wont be a storm 3 storm 2 was a huge jump from the 1st storm and a pretty decent phone they should have gave it 512 mb of ram the reason they didn't still escapes me especially when they gave 512 mb of ram to the bold 2 a phone that isn't even touch screen so it really doesn't need that much unless people flood their bbz with about 30 different apps and lets be real on a bb no one really does that... but all in all i think if these specs are correct the s3 will be alot better than the iphone four even if the internet bowser isnt up to par with it by than it still saves us money on the data and 1gz processor will put the iphone 4 to shame just hope they have the same size screen as the iphone going with anything smaller than that would just be a waste for these specs blackberry needs to make a solid phone and i think the s3 will be that...
