One of our connects dropped us this image of a BlackBerry Pearl 9100 with an external antenna. Apparently, there are a lot of devices in Waterloo, Canada (RIM's headquarters) that have these bands around them with a hole broken open at the internals of the antenna.
As you may know, the new iPhone 4 has an external antenna around the shell of the candy bar design. Apple's design hasn't proven to be the most effective, with many users experiencing connectivity problems.
RIM is known for their superior radio/antenna designs. They are one of the leading designers in solid radios. If this external antenna proves to be true, it will be interesting to see how effective it is. Perhaps RIM may accomplish building a truly good working external antenna?

They're gonna show Apple how it's done.
