Pearl 9100 Also Has Media Buttons?

The BlackBerry Pearl 9100 live images were recently leaked last week. The Pearl 9100 appears to have play, pause, mute, forward, and back buttons for controlling the media player. Looks as though this device will have the same as the BlackBerry Curve 8520.

Do you like this feature? What's your take on it?

WiFi Hero Saves Battery and Automatically Controls Your WiFi Connection

Always on the move and constantly need to keep up with a WiFi hotspot? Twinkler Software recently released WiFi Here, an app that lets your set when your WiFi should be on/off. By utilizing this feature it should help conserve battery life. Check out the features:
  • Location Based. In this mode, WiFi Hero will automatically learn the location of the WiFi Hotspot you are currently connected to, and when WiFi is not connected (you are out of range of this Hotspot), WiFi Hero will automatically turn off WiFi – and when you come back to the same Hotspot location, it will automatically turn on WiFi.

Research In Motion Sued For Visual Voice Mail

Research In Motion (RIM) is getting sued over possible Visual Voice Mail patent infringements. Klausner Technologies, inc. is claiming that RIM allegedly used technologies in the recently released BlackBerry Bold 9700 and other newer models that are covered in Klausner patents.

Motorola was also sued over their new CLIQ device. The suit was filed in the Eastern District of Texas where the judge is said to have been favorable to Klausner Technologies over patent suits in the past.

If the suit is passed, it will be interesting to see what could happen to the BlackBerry Bold 9700. Will RIM have to issue a fix? Do you think the suit will pass?

The new BlackBerry Media Sync 3.0 will be releasing today at 12 noon EST. The new media sync should be easier to use. Here are the new features:

PC to BlackBerry sync:
  • 2 way synchronization, Add folders for syncing with option to optimize pictures for device
  • Smart memory management: optimizes photo size, allowing for storage of more pictures on device
BlackBerry to PC Import:

BES 5.0 SP1 Coming in December?

*UPDATE* Just received word it is releasing November 30th!

The guys over at BerryReview had one of their ninjas dig up a nice PDF outlining the upcoming features of BES 5.0 SP1. They don't have a confirmed release date, but it should be sometime next month. Here is what's expected in service pack 1:
  • Open Document Format (ODF) Support – Support for .odp files and .ods files on BlackBerry devices. These are OpenOffice format files for wordprocessing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • VMware Certification
  • BlackBerry Browser device dashboard – Mobile friendly
  • Support for Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008
  • Support for Windows® Internet Explorer® version 8
  • Support for importing Wi-Fi® profiles and VPN profiles from a .csv file

BlackBerry Pearl 9100 Stratus Spotted

We showed you a leaked image of the Stratus or Pearl 9100 many months ago. Now, Sal got his hands on a beautiful looking 3G BlackBerry Pearl 9100. It resembles the new BlackBerry Bold 9700, but obviously much smaller and instead of the full QWERTY physical keyboard it's been swapped out for the SureType keyboard.

This candy-bar styled device looks like you could just take a big bite out of it!

Verizon Tour OS Update Today at 5pm

We've just confirmed with our Verizon connect that there will in fact be an OS update for the Tour 9630. Unfortunately, it will not be the anticipated OS 5.0, but OS 4.7.1.61. For some, who are currently using a leaked OS 5.0 version, may view this as pointless. In fact, it is pointless and another reason why we have faith in what we reported about 'vendor id 501' hopefully fixing the delay in OS release time. Nevertheless, this OS should release at 5pm (10pm EST).

All 9700 users already have OS 5.0 running from the start, but this newly leaked OS .351 might be of interest. We are unsure of the changes/updates, but if you are adventurous enough to install it we'd like to know how it runs!

Verizon Lavender Curve 8530 Spotted In The Wild

The rumored 'lavender' BlackBerry Curve 8530 from Verizon has been spotted in the wild. Research In Motion seems to be venturing into the 'color' market by slowly offering alternatives to the classic jet-black or gun-metal gray colored devices.
Will colored BlackBerry's be the wave of the future? With the introduction of the 'white' and 'lavender' devices it could suggest RIM is testing the market. You never know, you may see your boss rockin' a hot pink BlackBerry by next year!

T-Mobile Announces Pre-Paid BlackBerry Curve 8520

¿Habla usted español? T-Mobile does! They recently announced the debut of the T-Mobile Complete, which is a monthly pre-paid feature setup to compete against Cricket and MetroPCS. T-Mobile is offering the 'Complete' package with intent to draw the Hispanic market.

The plan debuts with the BlackBerry Curve 8520, which includes unlimited talk/text/web plan (BIS) for $80/month. Other non-BlackBerry packages range from $50 to $60 per month.

This offer has started at Best Buy and Wal-Mart.
