Ultimate Lock App Review

Are you tired of using the default lock feature on your Blackberry?  If your answer was yes, then you should give Ultimate Lock by Epic Applications a try.  However, If your answer was no, it'll serve as a yes this time because that's probably what you meant!

Ultimate Lock offers a variety of features that make it a worthwhile device-lock application to have.  It mirrors the look of the Android 2.1 lock screen and provides added functionality for your BlackBerry.  Notifications from various applications [Berry Weather, BBM, SMS, email, Twitter apps, Facebook, etc.] are displayed right on the lock screen.  And best of all, it's on sale for 3.99 until March 31View the video of Ultimate Lock in action and then read the full review after the jump.

New BBM 5.0.0.65
Well just as asked for on my Twitter, the new Blackberry Messenger (BBM) version has been released via a leaked OS. This time it is 5.0.0.65! The release seems very stable and, though nothing has noticeably changed, it is very quick and responsive.

Now just pray that another RIM server meltdown does not happen like last time!

Leaked: OS 5.0.0.571 For BlackBerry Tour 9630

The guys over at CrackBerry have gotten their hands on yet another OS leak this week.  This time the update is for the Tour 9630. Bla1ze states that this update is either the OS that Verizon plans to officially release or a higher build.  Either way, it seems that you can't really go wrong with this one. Give it a try and let us know what changes or improvements you discover!

*DISCLAIMER* - This is an unofficial RIM software release. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk! BB Leaks is not responsible for any malfunctions or abnormalities that may occur.

Leaked: OS 5.0.0.554 for 8900 & 9000

Looks like our friends over at Crackberry got their hands on some shiny new OS leaks, specifically for the Bold 9000, and Curve 8900.  Each leak brings us closer to an official, and AT&T needs to release it already.  This OS is .554  and hopefully works out some of the known bugs in prior leaks.  As always, we're not liable for any problems that might arise should you decide to install these.  For those who wanna take the plunge, you can download them below, and let us know what you find out!

Thanks to @videosforbb for the mirrors!

BIS 3.0 Arrival Dates Announced!

Our good friend Bla1ze over at Crackberry received info about BIS 3.0's release in North America. The dates and times are as follows:

  • There will be scheduled network maintenance by Research In Motion (RIM) affecting BIS customers between 0100 CT / 0200 EDT on March 28th and 0500 CT / 0600 EDT on March 28th.
  • Blackberry will be performing a BlackBerry Internet Service v2.8 upgrade to BlackBerry Internet Service v3.0
  • BlackBerry Internet Service subscribers may be unable to send or receive messages using their BlackBerry hosted email account or integrated third-party email accounts, view email attachments, activate email service, or request to see ""more"" text during the maintenance.
  • Wireless service providers and device resellers may be unable to create subscriber accounts or provision services for subscribers.
  • The estimated duration of impact is 4 hours and affects 100% of BIS customers
So according to the notice, all BIS customers will be without data for four hours which is not too bad for what we should be getting. Also most people will be sleeping during those hours so when we all wake up we should have BIS 3.0!

More Blackberry Pearl 9100 Images Surface

Looks like our international friends over at Tecnomovida were able to snap some fresh flicks of the unreleased (and unannounced) 3G Blackberry Pearl 9100.  The photos show the device running OS 5.0.0.449, and it looks like the phone is pretty much ready for primetime.  Personally, this is a VERY sexy device, and I think it's going to be a hit.  Check out more photos after the jump, and let us know what you think!

Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary App Review

Paragon Software let us know that they just released a Merriaum-Webster Dictionary app for the Blackberry platform.  Before you say "not another dictionary app," this app includes something that no other dictionary apps (to my knowledge) have.  This application saves the dictionary database to your SD card, for offline access.  This is a feature that I know some out there have been waiting for and luckily the wait is over.  The Merriam-Webster app is fast, simple, and will help you find your definitions with ease.  I had the privilege of testing this app out the last few days, hit the jump for a full review.

More Specs on BlackBerry Shield Emerge; Will It Be Useful?

We were recently tipped with what sounds to be the full specs on the upcoming BlackBerry Shield. We had initially touched on the 'Shield' service, hearing it was to be announced around the same time as BESX. However, it wasn't and we were still left with only the vague details we originally had. Now this upcoming service is sounding ever so enticing, especially once BIS 3.0+ is released.

First Images of BlackBerry OS 6.0?

There has been much speculation over what OS 6.0 could possibly look like. We were recently hit with these images of what appear to be of a device running OS 6.0 with a similar screen resolution of a storm or storm2. These spy shot images come highly regarded as real from one our best connects. We're hoping to see it soon on a physical device (maybe the slider?) and so until then take from it what you will.

Tumblr for Blackberry Released

Tumblr finally released their Blackberry app, which is very similar to their iPhone application.  You can post text, photos, quotes, links, chat, audio and video.  It won't let you customize your page, but you can post anything to your Tumblr through your Blackberry.  The app is fast, and allows you to easily post things.  If you're a Tumblr user make sure you check this out, and let us know what you think!

Productivity Tip: Stay Organized with Memopad

RIM's Blackberry could be considered one of the best productivity tools you can have.  There are so many things you can do from conference calls to scheduling meetings and composing word documents, there isn't much you can't do.  The core Blackberry applications are some of the best apps, even better than 3rd party apps, when dealing with organization and being productive.  One of my favorite core apps is Memopad.  I use Memopad on a daily basis for a number of my organization needs.  Hit the jump for reasons why I love Memopad.

BlackBerry Slider Gets Photographed from More POVs

When the first BlackBerry Slider images were leaked it was a face only photograph, that was extremely blurry. Then a few more, much clearer, images were unveiled, but still showing just the face of the Slider. There was much speculation over what the rest of device could look like. The wait is no more.

BlackBerry 9650 User Guide Confirms it's a Bold; May Release?

Earlier today we saw a nice OS leak for the 9650. What many did not realize was it had a hidden surprise. One of the readers on CrackBerry spotted a user guide within the OS. To our surprise the user guide now confirms that it will no longer be the Tour2, but in fact the Bold 9650!

Something else interesting to note is that Boy Genius Report has heard that the Bold 9650 could be releasing this coming in May 2010!

BlackBerry Tour2 9650 OS 5.0.0.533 Found Online

This makes for an interesting day. First the Tour 9630 gets a leak and now its potential successor also gets a leaked before it is released courtesy of BerryReview. It will be interesting to see what kind of hybrid OS' may be made of this.

BlackBerry Tour 9630 OS 5.0.0.548 Leaked Online

It hasn't been long since we saw a leaked OS for the Tour 9630. Usually, the 9630 users are left in the dust from the other devices flying by and getting the latest OS 5 software. Now, the Tour 9630 is fast a head in the race with the highest leaked build so far. We aren't too sure what's changed with this build, but it should hopefully be better than the last .530!
